Skep making August 2002

A wonderful Sunday event was enjoyed by the association members learning to make a traditional straw  Skep.

The Skep pattern used today was traditionally used as the actual bee house, which was then destroyed along with the bees to obtain the honey.

However, in these advanced and enlightened times, the Skep is predominately used to catch swarms of bees when they leave the hive.
